Police spokesman John Delaney says gunfire erupted late Monday night following a "verbal and physical fight" in the city’s North End. Twenty-one-year-old Justin Garafa, 20-year-old Alberto Nieves and 18-year-old Geovanni Saldana were taken to Baystate Medical Center. All three are listed in stable condition. Investigators believe all three have ties to gangs. Delaney said a large crowd created a disturbance outside the hospital’s emergency room while the men were being treated. A teenage girl was arrested after refusing to leave the hospital and becoming violent with police.

Trial of alleged street gang member resumes: "Philistin Paul, 32, alleged to be a street gang member associated with the Bloods, faces charges, including attempted murder, related to a shooting in Montreal North on June 4. Beauvoir Jean, 46, a former street gang leader who now works to counsel youth against joining gangs, initially told police that while trying to intervene in an argument outside a strip mall on Pascal St., Paul began to argue with him. He said he and Paul, who goes by the nickname Crazy, exchanged blows and that Paul then pulled out a firearm and fired in his direction. It is believed that Paul then tried to hide the firearm in his pants and that it went off a second time, injuring his thigh. Mexico arrests hitmen blamed for Acapulco slayings | Reuters: "The group is a splinter faction of the Beltran Leyva cartel, which has fragmented since Mexican marines killed its leader, Arturo Beltran Leyva, in December 2009, the federal police said in a statement. Police said the group's leader, Jose Lozano, was behind the 22 Acapulco murders.
