Sofia mafia boss Stefan Bonev aka Sako


Bulgarian Police re-arrested alleged Sofia mafia boss Stefan Bonev aka Sako late Wednesday night, local media has reported.According to prosecutors Sako is part of the Krasimir Marionov aka the Big Marguin’s criminal group.Marinov has been charged with plotting and ordering the murder of controversial journalist, Bobi Tsankov, who was gunned down on January 5 in broad daylight on a busy Sofia boulevard. Tsankov was known for his ties with the mafia and for publications revealing the dark secrets of the underworld.Sako was also arrested on January 5 on suspicion of being involved in the murder of Tsankov, he was however released without charge a few days later.In November 2009, Bulgarian Police arrested Sako in Sofia after he chased former radio host Tsankov through the streets of the capital in his car. He is also reported to have made previous threats against Tsankov’s life. Sako was then released after paying BGN 6000 bail.

William (Billy) Bowden, 33, pleaded guilty in a Winnipeg courtroom today to carrying a firearm in a careless manner in January 2007 and skipping out on his preliminary hearing about a year later. Other drug and weapons charges related to the 2007 incident were stayed as part of a plea bargain securing the two convictions. Bowden remains in custody though, charged with manslaughter in relation to the November 2007 killing of Jeff Engen, who was fatally stabbed at the Empire Cabaret, prompting the club to close. That charge remains before the courts. Bowden has been in custody since he was arrested Feb. 14 in Whistler, B.C., and returned to Manitoba. The Crown and defence jointly recommended that time be noted in his sentence for carrying the firearm. Nguyen-Tran, known as Jackie Tran arrested at his mother's home Tuesday night for breaching curfew

At a detention review on Thursday, the IRB said that Tran will stay at the Calgary Remand Centre because he broke his release conditions and is considered a flight risk. The bonds posted for someone's release is forfeited to the Canadian government if release conditions are not met, according to the Canada Border Services Agency. The Calgary police and the CBSA supported keeping Tran in custody. Calgary gang investigators said previous attempts on Tran's life and his gang involvement created security risks for both him and the public if he was freed. A permanent resident who moved to Canada in 1993, Tran racked up a criminal record in Calgary that includes two convictions for drug trafficking and one for assault with a weapon, so immigration officials issued a removal order for him on April 20, 2004.
